MILLSTONE – Township Committee members in Millstone Township are asking municipalities in New Jersey to join together in an attempt to improve the service provided by Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP&L), which is the region’s public electricity provider.
In a resolution that was passed during a meeting on April 7, the committee members said their call to action follows Tropical Storm Isaias in 2020, which caused significant power outages in Millstone Township and throughout the state.
The resolution states that Township Committee members believe JCP&L failed to provide the proper service as it relates to the length of time it took to restore full power to Millstone Township following the storm.
“It is clear to the Township Committee and residents of the township that the infrastructure JCP&L was charged to maintain – utility poles, transformer substations and wiring – often failed, demonstrating that the utility was unprepared for Tropical Storm Isaias,” municipal officials said in the resolution.
Millstone’s elected officials are asking to meet with representatives of other municipalities, JCP&L and the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to discuss the issues and concerns associated with JCP&L’s service, and to help improve the company’s overall service and to develop solutions to issues that have been identified.
In other business, officials awarded a $68,987 contract to On-Site Landscape Management for turf field fertilization and chemical programs at municipal properties.
The turf field fertilization and chemical programs will take place at Wagner Farm Park, Rocky Brook Park, Abate Park, Brandywine Park, Millstone Park, the veterans memorial, the municipal building, the municipal courthouse, the community center and the Clarksburg Cultural Center.
On-Site Landscape Management was awarded the contract as the lowest bidder seeking the municipal work. A bid in the amount of $77,150 was submitted by TLC Landscape Co.
And, committee members appointed Grace Ragosa as the Historic Commission secretary. She will receive $100 for each monthly meeting and $100 for providing the agenda and minutes, according to a resolution.
Finally, the committee members authorized the submission of an application to the state for a New Jersey Heritage Tourism Grant, provided through the Historic Trust. Officials will seek $50,000 to fund the Millstone Township Heritage Tourism Planning Project and to pay the remaining costs of $16,667 associated with the project.
