Two Republicans will challenge two Democratic incumbents for two available three-year terms on the Keyport Borough Council.
The seats currently held by Democrats Dennis Fotopoulos and Matthew Goode will be on the ballot in the Nov. 2 election.
According to the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office, Republicans Rose Araneo and Ronald Peperoni are running to be elected to the terms, and Fotopoulos and Goode are seeking re-election. The new terms will run from Jan. 1, 2022 through Dec. 31, 2024.
An individual who wants to run for Borough Council as an independent candidate has until June 8 to file a nominating petition and secure a place on the November general election ballot.
Fotopoulos has been a member of the governing body since 2019 and Goode has been a member of the governing body since 2016. Araneo and Peperoni are making their first bids for Borough Council.
On the six-member Keyport Borough Council, Democrats hold five council seats and the mayor’s office. Republicans hold one council seat.
A Democratic victory for Fotopoulos and Goode will maintain the Democrats’ 5-1 majority on the Borough Council. A Republican victory for Araneo and Peperoni will split the Borough Council 3-3 along party lines.
