Rutt scores two wins in Wall Stadium auto racing action

WALL TOWNSHIP – Neil Rutt III swept the top spot in two feature races at Wall Stadium Speedway on the evening of May 15, winning the Sportsman stock car and Limited Late Model 25-lap main events.

Beachwood’s Elliot Wohl, Charlestown, Md.,’s Mason Magee and Kyle Taraska of Woodbridge were also main event winners, according to a press release.

In the Sportsman 25-lapper, Rutt wrestled Jake Nelke of Manahawkin for the lead early before taking the top spot.

Three-time champion Kevin Davison of Howell and defending champ Jarret DiGiantomasso then closed in and challenged Rutt to the flag.

At the finish, Rutt and Davison were a tight one and two. Mike Carr of Point Pleasant advanced to third late in the test, while Nelke and DiGiantomasso wrapped up the top five.

In the Limited Late Model 25-lapper, Long Island’s Ray Minieri was the first leader while Rutt started third.

By lap five, Rutt had powered to the outside lane to take the lead. Former champ Howie Conk of Freehold soon moved into second and the top two tightened through the closing laps as they sliced through lapped traffic.

At the finish, Rutt and Conk were the top two with Bayville’s Mike Tillett, Jackson’s Gregg Gastelu and Minieri completing the top five.

“This is about the best night of my career so far,” Rutt said after the twin wins. “I have to thank Chris Kilbride for the Sportsman car and Sal Liguori for the Late Model ride. Both of them and everyone who helps us made this possible.”

Defending Factory Stock champion Elliot Wohl won his first 25-lapper of the young season after battling with Bryan O’Shea of Neptune City and Scott Riggleman of Beachwood. John Carpenter of Howell and Kevin Flores of Brick Township were fourth and fifth.

Mason Magee fought with early leader Joe McGrath of Brick Township before taking the lead near the halfway point. McGrath then chased Magee to the finish, with defending champ Peter Bruno of Little Silver, Quinn Trimmer of Waldwick and Howell’s Phil Bogdan finishing third through fifth.

Kyle Taraska of Woodbridge won the 25-lap feature for the touring Three-Quarter Midgets.

The 2021 Wall Stadium Saturday night regular season will continue on May 22 with the Modifieds, Sportsman, Three Quarter Midgets and twin 25-lappers for the Fast 4 cars on tap. Grandstands will open at 4 p.m., qualifying starts at 5 p.m. and main event action starts at 7 p.m.
