Allegedly pointing a knife at a family that was walking through Mercer County Park led to multiple charges – including charges of unlawful possession of a weapon and hindering apprehension – being filed against a Trenton man, according to the West Windsor Police Department.
The incident began after the man reportedly made unsolicited comments to a 14-year-old member of the family in the April 18 incident, police said. Those comments led to an altercation between the man and the family.
With help from Mercer County Park rangers, police located the man in the park.
He allegedly displayed the knife, which was a tactical-style knife with a 5-inch-long blade, to protect himself from the family that also included a 7-year-old child, police said.
During the investigation, it was determined that he lied to police by stating that he was 17 years old, and also gave a false name to police, according to reports.
