East Brunswick resident graduates from U.S. Naval Academy with bachelor’s degree

EAST BRUNSWICK–Successfully completing four years of challenging academic, physical and professional military training, resident Jatin Khona has graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy.

Khona graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in quantitative economics with honors and a commission as a U.S. Navy Ensign, according to a prepared statement from the U.S. Naval Academy’s Public Affairs Office.

He is a graduate of East Brunswick High School.

At the academy, Khona was a member of the Third Company and served as the Spring Semester Company Commander. He also served as the president of the Navy Model United Nations team and vice president of the Finance and Investment Club, according to the statement.

Khona’s father Dharmendra said his son’s commencement ceremony took place on May 28, at which Vice President Kamala Harris was the keynote speaker.

Midshipmen learn from military and civilian instructors and participate in intercollegiate varsity sports and extracurricular activities. They also study subjects such as leadership, ethics, small arms, drill, seamanship and navigation, tactics, naval engineering and weapons, and military law, according to the statement.

Upon graduation, midshipmen earn a Bachelor of Science degree in a choice of 25 different subject majors and go on to serve at least five years of exciting and rewarding service as commissioned officers in the U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps, according to the statement.
