South River council appoints new borough clerk; business administrator becomes municipal clerk

SOUTH RIVER–The Borough Council approved a resolution appointing Susan Minock as the municipality’s newest borough clerk.

Minock’s predecessor Bill Bray resigned from his position as to take a new position as a municipal clerk outside the county, according to Business Administrator Art Londensky.

Appointed in July 2018, Londensky said Bray’s last day as borough clerk was May 5.

The council approved a resolution appointing Minock as the municipality’s new borough clerk on May 24 during the council meeting via video conference.

Londensky said Minock is currently the clerk in Howell. ]

When going through the process to replace Bray’s position, Londensky said the borough had five applicants for the position; one did not qualify, then after taking the three best of the four, Minock was the finalist.

Minock will receive an annual salary of $85,000 and will start on June 7, according to the council.

In related news, the council also approved a resolution appointing Londensky as acting municipal clerk.

There is currently a vacancy in the position of municipal clerk in the borough, according to the council. State law permits the governing body within 90 days of the occurrence of a vacancy by reason of departure of a registered municipal clerk to appoint a person who does not hold a registered municipal clerk certificate to act as acting municipal clerk for a period not to exceed one year and commencing on the date of the vacancy, according to the council.

After the resolution was approved, Councilwoman Julie Meira thanked Londensky for taking on this new position but asked if the borough was going to be compensating him for all the positions that he has within the borough.

“I know he is our part-time business administrator … and now interim municipal clerk. … I am sure that everyone else who is helping out with these positions is going to be compensated. Wouldn’t it be fair for Londensky to also be compensated for his work?” Meira said.

Zanga said he is not being compensated as acting municipal clerk, part-time business administrator and Office of Emergency Management coordinator.

“We discussed the matter with Londensky and he is happy with what he is being paid, and yes we are saving a bundle of money because of him,” Mayor John Krenzel said.
