Bordentown police sergeant properly memorialized four decades after his passing

The Bordentown Township Police Department performed a ceremonial unveiling of a headstone recently obtained for Sgt. Stanley R. Piechota, who died in 1982 following a valiant battle with cancer.

Piechota was one of the original eight members of the Bordentown Township Police Department hired when the department was created in 1972, according to information provided by the department.

Prior to his employment as a police officer, he was an enlisted member of the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1969 and served in the Vietnam War.

Congressman Andy Kim, J.M. Bowker & Son Memorial, Newtown Cemetery and the Piechota family participated in the efforts to properly memorialize Piechota during the May 21 ceremony.
