WALL TOWNSHIP – Six Wall Stadium Speedway stock car racing divisions will be in action when the one-third-mile high banked paved oval honors dads with a special discount grandstand admission price this Father’s Day Weekend, June 19.
Grandstand seating will open at 4 p.m., with qualifying slated for 5 p.m., and the first main event planned for 7 p.m. All six divisions will compete in “Cone Races” on this special Saturday night, according to a press release.
In a “cone race,” a traffic cone is placed on the backstretch at the one-to-go sign for a restart. Any driver can choose to go inside the cone or outside the cone.
If the first four drivers choose the inside, for example, the fifth place driver can choose the outside and move up to the front row.
Does a driver take the preferred inside groove and restart further back on the inside, or does he or she choose the shorter line of cars on the outside and hope he or she can make it stick? That’s the issue each driver will face on each restart.
The headlining Modifieds are set for a 40-lap main event with defending champ Andrew Krause of Holmdel, Jackson’s Steven Reed, Brick Township’s Dom Fattaruso, Farmingdale’s Tommy Martino Jr. and Derek Hopkinson of Toms River all expected to compete in the series.
The Sportsman title chase is tight with Jackson’s Jarret DiGiantomasso defending his crown with top runners Neil Rutt III of Edison, Jake Nelke of Manahawkin and Carsten DiGiantomasso of Jackson also expected to see Sportsman action.
Two-time Factory Stock champion Elliot Wohl of Beachwood will lead the full-fendered cars into competition, while former champs Scott Riggleman of Manchester and Brian O’Shea of Neptune City are also expected to see action.
The race for the title in the Fast 4 division promises to be tight with defending champion Ryan Maher of Neptune City fighting off a field of talented competitors.
The Legend Cars will also offer strong title competition as Peter Bruno of Little Silver is expected to see action.
Howie Conk of Freehold and Bayville’s Mike Tillett, both former champs, are expected to lead the Limited Late Model feature race. All five support divisions will battle in 25-lappers.
On Saturday, the pit area will open at 1 p.m., while practice sessions will begin at 2:30 p.m.
The Father’s Day Feast at the refreshment stands will include homemade hearty food specials. Father’s Day themed drawings will be held at the Welcome Center and midway vendors will be selling men’s skincare products and cigars, according to the press release.
