SPOTSWOOD – The Spotswood VFW held a blood drive that became one of the top five days for collection at the site.
VFW Post 4589 opened its doors from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 23.
The event collected 61 units (pints) of blood, according to information provided by Lynne Ross, account manager for New Jersey Blood Services, a division of New York Blood Center.
There were 54 donors registered; 39 donated whole blood and 11 donated double red cells (each donating two units), she said.
This will help as many as 183 patients.
“This was one of our top five days for collections and that is especially important because of the national blood shortage. Usually when we have a shortage in New Jersey, we can find another region to help us out but at this point, that is not possible,” she said.
The VFW has been hosting blood drives for New York Blood Center two to four times per month during the pandemic.
