Retired teacher created ‘judgement-free, welcoming’ environment for student

Retired Hillsborough Middle School teacher William Hunt was nominated by his student
Youssef Abdelhalim and selected as a U.S. Presidential Scholars Program Distinguished Teacher.

Hunt was Youssef’s eighth grade history teacher and had a profound impact on him in his
first year in the United States, according to a proclamation presented by the Hillsborough Township Committee on June 22.

Hunt encouraged Youssef to share and educate his fellow classmates about his Islamic religion, according to the proclamation, and provided a judgment-free, welcoming, safe environment for Youssef to become self expressive and confident.

Hunt taught seventh/eighth grade social studies, eighth grade REACH, and ESL push-in at
Hillsborough Middle School for 16 years.
