Hightstown Elks Lodge 1955 hosted its fifth End Hunger 3.6 meal packing event on July 17.
Coordinated by members Bill Coleman and Umang Naik, and partially funded through proceeds from the Elks’ Annual Winter Calendar Raffle fundraiser, the effort included participation by members of local non-profits Be Kind and the East Windsor Area Girl Scouts (EWAGS).
“In just six hours, dozens of Elks Lodge members, community volunteers and Girl Scouts packaged 3,960 bags (23,760 meals = 110 cases) of fortified rice and beans meals that can help feed a lot of local families in need,” Coleman said.
The non-perishable food was distributed to area pantries including RISE Food Pantry in Hightstown, Ginny’s Pantry in Hamilton and the Salvation Army in Trenton.
