Marlboro police officers rescue man from burning home

MARLBORO – Two Marlboro police officers are being credited with saving a resident from house that was on fire on the evening of Aug. 1.

Marlboro Police Department Capt. Steve Levy reported that at 11:38 p.m., police received a 911 call from the homeowners at 447 Tennent Road who informed the police department there was a possible fire in their residence.

Police officers Donna Gonzalez, Michael Morgante, Ryan Anzalone and Colin Murray responded to the scene and reported a heavy smoke condition coming out of the attic.

The officers met the homeowners and several family members who were standing outside the residence. At first, the family members believed everyone was out of the house, according to Levy.

However, it was quickly learned there could be a family member still inside the home, possibly on the second floor.

Levy said Gonzalez and Anzalone entered the residence and were able to locate an adult male in a second floor bedroom which was completely filled with smoke. The officers were able to safely escort the man downstairs and outside.

Both police officers sustained smoke inhalation and were treated at the scene by members of the Morganville First Aid Squad.

Fire departments arrived at the residence and were able to extinguish the fire.

One firefighter was transported by ambulance to Hackensack Meridian Health Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge, for treatment of smoke inhalation, according to Levy.

Tennent Road was closed between Church Road and Duncan Drive for three hours while emergency personnel were on scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but does not appear to be suspicious, Levy said in a press release.

In addition to the Marlboro Police Department, responding agencies included the Marlboro Fire Department, the Robertsville Volunteer Fire Company (Marlboro), the Morganville Fire Department, the Marlboro First Aid Squad, the Morganville First Aid Squad, the Gordons Corner Fire Company (Manalapan), the Adelphia Fire Company (Howell), the East Freehold Fire Company (Freehold Township), the Freehold Fire Department (Freehold Borough), the Englishtown Fire Department, the Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Office of the Marlboro Fire Inspectors.
