Virtual run will raise funds for therapeutic riding program

Special People United to Ride (SPUR), a therapeutic horsemanship program in the Lincroft section of Middletown, has announced its second annual virtual run, scheduled for Oct. 3-9.

Any time during that week, participants can walk, trot or gallop for 2 miles wherever they like to help raise money for the SPUR scholarship fund, which provides support for lessons for individuals who cannot otherwise afford them, according to a press release.

SPUR virtual run participants will receive a long-sleeve race T-shirt. All registrants will also be entered into weekly drawings running now through Oct. 2. Seven lucky participants will receive a $100 gift card to any McLoone’s restaurant, according to the press release.

New this year is an additional opportunity to earn prizes. Each participant who raises at least $100 will be entered into a random drawing on Oct. 10. For every $100 raised, an individual will receive additional entries.

Fundraising incentives include: Concept2 rowing machine; Golf for three with a member at the Navesink Country Club; a gift basket from Animal Bodywork and Aromatherapy valued at $350; New York Giants tickets to a game in October to be determined; a $300 gift card to any McLoone’s Restaurant; a $250 Off the Hook Restaurant gift card; and a Playa Bowls gift basket, according to the press release.

Race sponsors to date are: McLoone’s Restaurant; C&C Air-Heat-Plumbing; IBO Construction Group; NGA Millworking; the McAuliffe family; the Pattwell family; Animal Bodywork and Aromatherapy; and Off The Hook Restaurant.

Once participants register they can set up a fundraising page to send to friends, family members and co-workers to enlist their financial support for the SPUR virtual run, according to the press release.

The race site, https://raceroster.com/events/2022/48242/spur-virtual-run-2021, also has a Donate to a Participant search feature and there is a Donate Now button for non-participating supporters.
