The driver of a Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle had to be rescued from his vehicle after he drove around barriers and into the floodwaters on Route 533/River Road near the Griggstown Causeway on Aug. 23, according to the Montgomery Township Police Department.
Police found the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE stuck in more than two feet of water from the overflowing Millstone River. The driver, who was identified as a 45-year-old Pennington man, was uninjured, police said.
Montgomery Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 used its high water rescue vehicle to drive into the floodwaters, according to reports.
A volunteer firefighter climbed out of the 5-ton, ex-military vehicle and waded over to the SUV. He opened the driver’s side door and helped the driver to safety, officials said.
The man, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was issued a summons for driving on a posted closed road.
The Mercedes-Benz SUV was towed from the scene after the floodwaters receded, police said.
