Adam Bierman, who had filed to run for one of three open seats on the Princeton Public Schools Board of Education, has withdrawn his candidacy and will not run for election to the school board.
Bierman had been one of five candidates for the three open seats on the school board, held by school board members Betsy Baglio, Daniel Dart and Brian McDonald. Dart is not seeking re-election in the Nov. 2 general election.
Bierman’s decision to drop out of the race has reduced the field to four candidates vying for the three seats – incumbent school board members Baglio and McDonald, and challengers Mara Franceschi and Jeffrey Zhi Yang Liao.
The term is for three years.
“This is not the right time for me to run for the Princeton school board,” Bierman said.
“I want to thank everyone who shared their time, expertise – what I call harvesting Princeton’s intelligentsia – in the continuing quest for student-first excellent, affordable Princeton schools,” Bierman said.
Bierman grew up in Princeton and is a graduate of Princeton High School. He teaches at the state Division of Children and Families, and works with at-risk students in Trenton.
Of the four remaining candidates, Baglio has lived in Princeton since 2011. She has two children – one who attends the Princeton Middle School and one who attends Princeton High School.
Baglio is an educator by training and has worked as a public school teacher, grades K-12 educational consultant and as a professional developer.
Franceschi has lived in Princeton for 11 years and all three of her children have attended the Princeton Public Schools. Her daughter attends Princeton Middle School and her son attends Princeton High School.
Franceschi has worked in the financial services and asset management fields for more than a decade.
Liao moved to Princeton last year because of its excellent public schools. He has one child enrolled at the Littlebrook School and another child enrolled at the Princeton Middle School.
Liao is an attorney.
McDonald has lived in Princeton for 26 years, and his three children graduated from Princeton High School.
McDonald is an artist and designer.
