The Middlesex County Hazmat Unit reported the line-of-duty death of Lt. Donald J. Trout while responding to a call for service on Aug. 27.
Trout was with the unit since 2002 and previously served as the supervisor for “A” Shift, according to information provided by the Middlesex County Firefighters Association.
Recently, Trout was named as the unit’s training officer.
He was a member of IAFF Local 3451 – Middlesex County Firefighters Association. He held several positions within the local including a term as president, according to the statement.
Trout died at Raritan Bay Medical Center. He was in Perth Amboy and lived in Woodbridge Township before moving to Perth Amboy in 2009, according to his obituary.
Trout was an Exempt Firemen of Keasbey Fire Department and the N.J. Exempt Fireman’s Association where he served as chief from 2000-03. He held several positions within the Local and was a past president.
He is a former member of the Perth Amboy Volunteer Fire Department First Aid Squad.
Middlesex County Hazmat and the Keasbey Fire Department will hold memorial services at 7 p.m. Sept. 1 at Gustav J. Novak Funeral Home, 419 Barclay St., Perth Amboy. Visiting hours are 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sept. 1.
Parking will be available on Barclay Street near the funeral home and overflow parking will be available at Perth Amboy Fire Headquarters, 375 New Brunswick Ave., Perth Amboy, with shuttle bus service available.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 2. All fire department and emergency services personnel should arrive at Good Sheppard Parish – Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church, 625 Florida Grove Road, Hopelawn, to line up by 8:30 a.m., as the procession from the funeral home will be leaving at 8:45 a.m. Parking will be available at the church and overflow parking will be available at Warren Park, Florida Grove Road, Woodbridge, with shuttle bus service available.
Fire apparatus are welcome. There will be a parking director available to direct apparatus.
Class A uniforms shall be worn.
