Shutzer, Jordan win three-year terms in Freehold Borough

FREEHOLD – Democrats Annette Jordan and Sharon Shutzer have won three-year terms on the Borough Council in Freehold Borough. The terms will run from January 2022 through December 2024.

Shutzer and Jordan, two incumbent members of the six-member governing body, ran unopposed in the general election, which was conducted with vote by mail ballots; with early in-person voting on nine days in late October; and with in-person voting on Nov. 2.

Shutzer received 1,464 votes and Jordan received 1,435 votes, according to results posted online by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office as of Nov. 5. The election results will remain unofficial until they have been certified by the county.

With their victories, Democrats will continue to hold all six council seats, as well as the mayor’s office, in Freehold Borough.

Jordan, who is serving as council president in 2021, has been a resident of Freehold Borough for 31 years. She previously served for 19 years as a member of the Freehold Borough K-8 School District Board of Education.

She has also served on the Planning Board, the Human Relations Committee and the Innovation Committee, and on the Freehold Municipal Alliance to Prevent Substance Abuse, which serves Freehold Borough and Freehold Township.

Professionally, she worked in several account management capacities at Gannett Media before retiring.

“I want to thank the residents of the borough for their support returning me to council,” Jordan said. “I look forward to continuing to work on goals the mayor and council have set, prioritizing smart redevelopment, civic engagement and fiscal responsibility.”

Shutzer, who is a retired teacher, has been a resident of Freehold Borough for 50 years. She has served on the Borough Council since 1992. Prior to becoming involved in municipal government, she served on the Board of Education for six years in the 1970s and 1980s.

“I am honored and humbled by my re-election and by the faith our residents have placed in me,” Shutzer said. “I will continue to work hard in representing the residents of Freehold Borough.”
