The YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge & South Amboy (MEWSA) appointed Amie Thornton to its board.
Thornton serves as chief hospital executive of JFK University Medical Center in Edison as well as providing executive oversight to EMS services across the Hackensack Meridian Health network. She has overall responsibility for operational divisions that include JFK University Medical Center, the Johnson Rehabilitation institute and the NJ Neuroscience Institute. She leads the hospital’s senior management team in driving all aspects of performance excellence and strategic positioning of the medical center.
“The role of board member is a very important one”, Rose Cushing, president and CEO of the YMCA of MEWSA, said in a prepared statement. “We welcome Amie to the board and know that her knowledge, business experience and passion will be an asset to the Y to help create communities where everyone can learn, grow and thrive.”
Prior to joining JFK, Thornton was administrator of Saint Michael’s Medical Center in Newark and assistant commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, leading the Certificate of Need and Acute Care Licensing and Inspections programs.
Thornton received a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business.
YMCA board members are responsible for establishing policy and strategic direction for the Y, as well as creating opportunities and establishing relationships that advance the YMCA’s mission and cause, according to the statement.
“Amie joins our board, which I am proud to say is comprised of strong community leaders working together to effectively and efficiently strengthen the Y and enhance its community impact,” Mike Lackland, chairman of the board, said in the statement. “We know that her addition will be a positive one.”
