MATAWAN – Summer activities on Main Street are set to begin with Matawan’s Blues & Cruise Night on May 25. The family friendly event is free to all visitors and will feature activities and entertainment. Residents from all municipalities are invited to attend.
The Matawan Economic Business Development Commission and the Matawan-Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce are hosting the event to support local businesses and veterans.
According to Matawan Borough Council President Brian Livesey, all proceeds from the event will benefit American Legion Post 176.
At 5:30 p.m., a heroes garden will be dedicated to veterans at a location between Maloney’s Pub & Grill, 119 Main St., and the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals and Cremation Services, 111 Main St.
“The heroes garden is collaboration between two businesses on Main Street. These two businesses (Maloney’s and the Scalia funeral home) got together and built a garden in honor of veterans and first responders. The Matawan Police Department Honor Guard, the Matawan Fire Department and local dignitaries will be part of the event, cutting the ribbon for the garden,” Livesey said.
Following the dedication of the heroes garden, residents and visitors will have the opportunity to socialize and shop from 6-9 p.m. Activities on Main Street will include a classic car show, live performances, two blues bands and more than 30 vendors.
Livesey said the car show will begin at 6 pm. as “classic cars line Main Street from Little Street north to North Street. We will have more than 30 vendors selling everything from handmade crafts, to cigars, to food items and clothing.
“We will have DJ Richie Flash spinning oldies in the middle of Main Street and two blues bands, the Incinerators and Seba, playing blues classics from the stage.
“It will be great evening to come out, look at some classic cars and hot rods, catch up with your neighbors, do some shopping in downtown Matawan, and have dinner and a drink in one of our great restaurants.
“All proceeds from the rental of the vendor booths will be donated to American Legion Matawan Post 176 for veterans’ causes. Post 176 will have a table at the event. We love to be able to host events like this where the community comes together and salutes those who keep us safe.
“And thank you to our great sponsors; Maloney’s on Main, the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals and Cremation Services, Fazio Brothers Auto, and Mullaney & Associates Physical Therapy,” Livesey said.
