SAYREVILLE – The Board of Education has named its first principal at the brand-new Project Before Preschool at the Jesse Selover School.
On May 17, Sayreville Board of Education members approved the transfer of Nina Obryk from supervisor of professional development at Sayreville Middle School to become the principal of Project Before Preschool at Selover for the upcoming 2022-23 school year.
Her appointment will be effective from the start of the school year on July 1 through the end on June 30, 2023, after which she may be re-appointed by the board.
According to district administrators, Obryk will receive a base salary of $126,290 and a longevity bonus of $2,500 for a total salary of $128,790 as principal.
Sayreville has three pre-kindergarten locations at the Selover School, the Samsel Upper Elementary School and the Cheesequake Preschool in Old Bridge.
Superintendent of Schools Richard Labbe, who recommended the transfer, voiced praise of Obryk ahead of her appointment.
“We opened up a search for the principal of our brand-new Project Before at Selover school and we received many very qualified applicants, including some from the school district,” Labbe said. “However, there was one who was unmatched by any of them.
“This is a person I’ve had the honor and privilege of knowing and working with since the moment I stepped into Sayreville. From that very moment, she has impressed me with her dedication, her commitment first and foremost to her students and her profession, her incredible knowledge, particularly curriculum and instruction and, most importantly, her desire to be the absolute very best, knowing that the better she could become, the better her students would learn and grow.
“We hired her as the supervisor of professional development thinking that she would take us to the next level with Sayreville University,” he continued. “However, getting to know this person, you realize that one level wasn’t good enough. She took it to two, three, even five levels higher than we ever expected or imagined that she would. She is going to take Project Before not to the next level, to the next five levels.”
