The Freehold Borough Board of Education will be participating in the 2022 Summer Food Service Program from June 27 through Aug. 11.
The Summer Food Service Program is a federal program of the Food and Nutrition Services, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). This program provides all children 18 years of age and under with the same free meal in accordance with a menu approved by the state agency, according to a press release.
In accordance with federal civil rights law and USDA civil rights regulations and policies, the USDA, its agencies, offices and employees, and institutions participating in or administering USDA programs are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age and reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA, according to the press release.
Persons with disabilities who require alternative means of communication for program information (e.g., Braille, large print, audiotape, American Sign Language, etc.), should contact the agency (state or local) where they applied for benefits.
Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech disabilities may contact USDA through the Federal Relay Service at 800-877-8339. Additionally, program information may be made available in languages other than English, according to the press release.
The Manalapan Police Department has reported two recent incidents of theft in the community.
On May 30 at 8:30 p.m., a Queens, N.Y., resident reported that an unknown individual entered an unlocked vehicle and removed items valued at approximately $1,675. The incident occurred while the vehicle was parked in the driveway of a residence on Silverleaf Way, off Gordons Corner Road. Patrolman Matthew Meyler handled the report. The theft is pending further investigation.
On May 31 at 7:10 p.m., a Manalapan resident reported that an unknown individual entered the open garage of a Taylors Mills Road residence and removed a bicycle valued at $500. The individual was described as being a male between the ages of 50 and 60.
Patrolman Everett McNulty handled the report. The theft is pending further investigation.
Freehold Borough and the Freehold Borough Recreation Commission have announced the return of the Independence Day Concert and Fireworks at Freehold Raceway, Park Avenue, on July 3.
Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and the fireworks will start at dusk. The event is free and all are welcome to attend.
Musical entertainment will be provided by the RockNRoll Chorus (5:45 p.m.), Lil Asmar and the Garden State Prodigies (6:20 p.m.) and RockitFish (7:15 p.m.). Kason Jackson will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
No pets, coolers or backpacks are permitted. Guests may bring blankets and folding beach chairs.

Green Leaf Pet Resort, Millstone Township, is partnering with big names in the pet care industry to raise money for the CentraState Healthcare Foundation.
On June 25 from noon to 6 p.m., Green Leaf Pet Resort will host thousands of animal-loving attendees at its Canine Carnival – Paws for a Cause event. Organizers said 100% of the proceeds earned will be donated to the CentraState Healthcare Foundation to support its mission to the community, according to a press release.
Admission is free and all furry, fuzzy and feathered friends are encouraged to attend. There will be carnival games, doggie dock-diving, lure courses, a New Jersey State Police K-9 demonstration, food trucks, vendor tables, face painting and live musical performances.
A highlight of the day will be raffles, one of which is for a 2022 Crosstrek lease donated by All American Subaru of Old Bridge. Canine enthusiasts will be supported by VCA’s mobile triage unit and “Ask-A-Vet” station, along with Fi’s Microchip Station, according to the press release.

Center Players, in partnership with historic Oakley Farm, will present “An Enchanted Afternoon,” a free community event on June 18 at 4 p.m. at the farm, 189 Wemrock Road, Freehold Township.
The afternoon will feature live musical performances from area artists, including
vocalists, musicians and instrumental groups. Attendees are asked to bring a blanket or a lawn chair to the event, according to a press release.

New Jersey Human Services is honoring 12 New Jersey high school and middle school students for their winning entries in the 2022 New Jersey Child Support Teen Media Contest, which, this year, celebrates the dreams and future achievements of Garden State youth through the support of family, friends and loved ones.
Students across New Jersey were asked to submit artistic, hand-drawn and written portrayals celebrating dreams the teens have, and how their family and loved ones are helping them to achieve and meet these goals, according to a press release.
The winner in the Hand-Drawn/Hand-Painted category for high schools was Olatomi Gabriel of Freehold Township High School
