SOUTH RIVER – As schools come to a close and summer vacation begins, the South River Police Department is reminding residents of its free Unoccupied Residence Program.
South River residents can complete and submit a form to let police know when a residence will be unoccupied, if any vehicles will be at the home and/or if any friends/relatives will be checking on the residence, according to police through a message on Nixle.
A police officer will then check on the home as time permits during his or her normal patrol duties.
The Unoccupied Residence Form can be downloaded by visiting www.southriverpd.org or picked up at police headquarters, 61 Main St. The form can be faxed to 732-613-6103 or dropped off 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at police headquarters.
Residents should call police if they return home early or their return is delayed at 732-238-1000.
Police noted the program is intended for residences which are unoccupied due to short-term travel or vacation plans. It is separate from the borough’s long-term vacant property ordinance.
The Unoccupied Residence Program is one of many no cost programs offered to residents through the department.
Other programs include Project Medicine Drop; Child Safety Seat Inspections; Home Security Inspections; Operation Blue Angel; Special Needs Registry; Business Registration Program; and Anonymous Tip Line & Online Report-it Form.
