FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – A $2.32 million contract has been awarded by the Township Committee for this year’s pavement overlay program in Freehold Township.
During a meeting on June 14, committee members awarded the contract to Meco Inc. of neighboring Millstone Township for the 2022 pavement overlay program.
Other bids seeking the Freehold Township contract were submitted by Black Rock Enter. ($2.91 million); Fiore Paving Co. ($2.907 million); S&G Paving Inc. ($2.84 million); S. Brothers Inc. ($2.81 million); and Earle Asphalt Co. ($2 million).
According to a resolution, Township Engineer Timothy White recommended that Meco Inc. be awarded the contract and his recommendation was upheld by the members of the governing body.
The work will be funded through a bond ordinance that was previously adopted by the Township Committee.
In other business, the committee authorized a $7,900 reduction in a contract that was awarded to Gavan General Contracting Inc. for the Henderson Barn restoration in the West Freehold section of Freehold Township off West Main Street.
The contract was awarded in 2021 in the amount of $243,330. The revised contract totals $235,430. The reduction was due to a decrease in final contract value consistent with the final as-built quantities for the project.
According to a resolution, the project to restore the Henderson Barn has been completed and $235,430 will be the final payment.
Finally, committee members authorized the execution of a shared services agreement with the Freehold Township Fire District No. 1 Board of Fire Commissioners. Through the agreement, the township will provide the fire district with automotive maintenance and repair services to specifically identified vehicles.
Fire District No. 1 provides firefighting services west of Route 9 through the Freehold Township Independent Fire Company.
Firefighting services east of Route 9 are provided by Freehold Township Fire District No. 2 through the East Freehold Fire Company.
