KEYPORT – The Borough Council is planning to appropriate $1.7 million toward road improvements in Keyport in 2022.
During a meeting on Aug. 16, council members introduced a bond ordinance that will, if adopted, appropriate the $1.7 million for a road improvement project. The ordinance will authorize the issuance of $1.15 million in bonds or notes to finance a portion of the costs.
The appropriation will also be funded by $521,900 in grants from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT), consisting of a $270,000 DOT grant from Fiscal Year 2021 and a $251,900 DOT grant from Fiscal Year 2022.
Municipal officials said $28,100 remaining from prior municipal budgets will cover the remaining costs. No down payment is required for the road improvements because of the DOT grants that are funding the improvements.
A public hearing on the bond ordinance has been scheduled for Sept. 9. The governing body may adopt the bond ordinance that evening.
According to the ordinance, the improvements covered by the appropriation include the planning, design, reconstruction of various roads and curb repairs throughout Keyport.
