More than two months after three members of the same Marlboro family died in a motor vehicle collision on Route 9 in Freehold Township, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing.
Marlboro residents Masoud B. Salib, 61, Hanaa I. Salib, 52, and Mark M. Salib, 21, died after their vehicle was struck from behind as it was stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Route 9 south and Business Route 33 west on the afternoon of July 3.
Hanaa Salib was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision. Masoud Salib succumbed to his injuries at a hospital on July 3. Mark Salib died at a hospital on July 5, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Masoud Salib and Hanaa Salib were Mark Salib’s father and mother.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the Salibs’ vehicle has since received motor vehicle summonses related to her involvement in the crash.
According to a press release from the prosecutor’s office, just before 1:30 p.m. July 3, officers from the Freehold Township Police Department responded to a report of a multi-vehicle crash near the intersection of Route 9 south and Business Route 33 west.
An investigation determined a 2019 Lexus NX being driven by a 74-year-old female from Manalapan was traveling southbound on Route 9 when her vehicle side-swiped a 2015 Lexus RX350 and then side-swiped a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek before rear-ending a 2017 Honda CR-V.
The Honda CR-V, which Mark Salib was driving, then rear-ended a 2009 Scion TC.
The driver of the Scion TC was a 67-year-old male resident of Aberdeen Township, the prosecutor’s office said.
The Manalapan woman was hospitalized with injuries, while other drivers and passengers who were involved in the collision sought medical attention for what authorities described as minor injuries.
Since the collision occurred, the News Transcript has on several occasions asked the prosecutor’s office for the name of the 74-year-old Manalapan resident. The prosecutor’s office has declined to release her name.
On Sept. 13, the prosecutor’s office, in response to that day’s request for information from the News Transcript, said the woman has since been released from the hospital and is recovering from her injuries.
The prosecutor’s office said three moving violation summonses have been issued to the Manalapan woman, but did not enumerate the nature of the motor vehicle charges or state when the charges may be heard in court.
The prosecutor’s office once again said the investigation into the July 3 incident remains active and ongoing.
