FREEHOLD – The Freehold Borough K-8 School District is seeking to fill a vacant seat on the Board of Education.
During a meeting on Sept. 12, board members accepted the resignation of Bruce Patrick from the board. Patrick’s resignation became effective on Sept. 5.
On the same night, the board members directed Business Administrator Patrick Pisano to prepare an advertisement seeking residents to fill the vacancy.
According to his biography on the district website, Patrick had been a member of the board since 2011 and was a resident of Freehold Borough for 29 years.
He was a research scientist in the Humoral Immunology Department at the New York State Institute for Basic Research on Staten Island, where he managed a laboratory for 40 years until his retirement in 2018.
On the school board, Patrick was the chairman of the policy committee and was Freehold Borough’s alternate delegate to the New Jersey School Boards Association.
District administrators credited him with taking an active role in helping to increase the amount of state aid the district has received in recent years.
At a future meeting, board members will interview the residents who apply to be appointed to fill the vacant seat and name an individual to succeed Patrick.
The resident who is appointed to the school board will serve until the end of 2023. That term will appear on the November 2023 election ballot as full three-year term for which any qualified Freehold Borough resident may run.
