Hopewell Valley Central High School Performing Arts is presenting the musical “The Wedding Singer” live on stage during the first two weekends of March.
The musical performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. March 3, March 4, March 10, and March 11 inside the Performing Arts Center at Hopewell Valley Central High School (HVCHS) in Pennington.
Tickets will not be sold at the door and capacity is limited. The tickets are $15, but only $10 for students and seniors.
The production is also rated PG-13 for some mature language and content, according to a press release.
The Wedding Singer will take the audience back to a time when “hair was big, greed was good, collars were up and a wedding singer might just be the coolest guy in the room.”
Based on the hit Adam Sandler movie, The Wedding Singer’s sparkling new score “does for the ’80s what Hairspray did for the ’60s,” according to the release.
It’s 1985, and rock star wannabe, Robbie Hart, is New Jersey’s favorite wedding singer.
He’s the life of the party until his own fiancée leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a winsome waitress, who wins his affection.
As luck would have it, Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and, unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever.
A “rocking 80’s night” at the show takes place the evening of the March 10 performance. They urge those attending to bust out “legwarmers, shake up the hairspray, and come dressed in their most rad 80’s gear that evening.”
They will have a selfie station, 80’s favorite hits playing in the lobby, and some throwback favorites at the concession booth.
