Home video surveillance cameras helped police identify and apprehend a 19-year-old New Brunswick woman for the alleged package thefts from homes in the township, according to the Montgomery Township Police Department.
The woman was arrested Feb. 14 and charged with five counts of theft – one count for each of the five thefts – that occurred on Feb. 9 and Feb. 10, police said.
Police received reports of package thefts from homes on Juniper Street, East Hartwick Drive and Village Drive, which are all in the same area, over a two-day period. The delivery of packages had been captured on home video surveillance cameras.
The home video surveillance cameras recorded images of the woman – wearing the same clothing and getting out of the same car – allegedly walking up to the victims’ doorsteps, police said. The video showed her allegedly taking the packages and returning to her car with them.
One of the video surveillance cameras captured the vehicle’s license plate numbers, police said.
The woman may be linked to other package thefts in the surrounding area, police said.
The woman was arrested, processed and released.
