A criminal investigation has been launched into a fire that started in a grass divider in the parking lot at Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell March 6, destroying or damaging four vehicles, according to the Hopewell Township Police Department.
The fire, which was reported at around 8:30 a.m., occurred in the grass divider that separates the parking aisles in the hospital parking lot, police said. None of the vehicles were occupied and there were no injuries.
The fire destroyed a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek and a 2017 Honda Civic LX, police said. Two nearby vehicles suffered a damaged tire and a damaged front bumper.
The Hopewell Emergency Services Unit, the Union Fire Company, the Pennington Fire Department, the West Trenton Fire Department and the Hopewell Fire Department responded to the scene and prevented additional losses, police said.
All fires in Hopewell Township are investigated as suspicious in nature until proven otherwise, and the March 6 fire is no exception, police said. It is undergoing a criminal investigation, which includes sifting through the debris.
The Hopewell Township Police Department and the Hopewell Valley Emergency Services are working together to determine the source and cause of the fire, police said.
