Benford Estates fire appears to be accidental

A home in the Benford Estates development was left uninhabitable after a fire shortly before 2 p.m. May 8, according to the West Windsor Police Department.

A landscaper who was working across the street from the house reported the fire at 1:50 p.m., police said.

When police arrived, they found fire had engulfed the kitchen area of the house.

Firefighters from West Windsor and Plainsboro townships battled the blaze and brought it under control by 2:07 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it appears to be accidental in nature, police said.

The West Windsor Township Construction Office determined the house to be uninhabitable because of the fire, police said. The occupants made alternate arrangements for shelter.

The West Windsor Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1, Princeton Junction Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 and the Plainsboro Fire Department responded to the fire. Capital Health MICU (Medical Intensive Care Unit) paramedics also responded. There were no reported injuries.
