William A. Hunter, 89, of Princeton passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Alloa, Scotland, he immigrated in 1952 to the US and lived in Trenton. He settled in Princeton after joining the Princeton Borough Police Department in 1961 where he served as a Patrolman and specialized in arson investigations. He retired in 1986 and then worked for Princeton Regional School System. William was a lifetime member of the Princeton Hook and Ladder Fire Company where he served for 54 years. He was also a member of the Princeton Masonic Lodge and PBA Local 130. He was an Army veteran who served from 1957-1959 as an armorer and assistant platoon sergeant. William was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing, a good cigar, and scotch. He loved spending time with his family, especially his loving granddaughters and beloved Cairn Terriers, and his friends, and enjoyed vacationing at the Jersey Shore and traveling on cruises. He was a member of Slackwood Presbyterian Church in Lawrenceville where he married his wife Jean, of 63 years, in 1960.
Predeceased by his parents William and Jessie (Palmer) Hunter; he is survived by his wife Jean (Richardson) Hunter; sons and daughter-in-law Neil and Sharon Hunter and Douglas Hunter; granddaughters Nicole and MacKenzie; and brother and sister-in-law James and Emanuela “Bunny” Hunter.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 6-9 pm and Wednesday, May 17, 2023 from 10-11am at The Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Ave. Princeton, NJ 08542. Funeral services will follow at 11am at the funeral home.
