An 18-year-old Lawrence Township woman was killed when her car collided with a dump truck on Brunswick Pike/Route 1 and Franklin Corner Road shortly after noon June 1, according to the Lawrence Township Police Department.
The 28-year-old dump truck driver suffered moderate injuries. The woman died at the scene, police said.
The investigation into the crash determined that it was caused by an improper turn by the 18-year-old driver, who was traveling north on Brunswick Pike/Route 1, police said.
Video evidence showed that she attempted to turn left onto Franklin Corner Road, crossing several lanes of traffic, police said. As her sedan crossed Brunswick Pike/Route 1, it was struck by a dump truck that was traveling south. The crash occurred in the southbound lanes.
No charges are expected to be filed against the dump truck driver, police said.
Brunswick Pike/Route 1 in the area of Franklin Corner Road was closed for about six hours while police investigated the crash. It was reopened around 6:30 p.m.
The Lawrence Township Police Department responded, along with the Lawrence Township Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, Capital Health Systems paramedics and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
