We celebrate the earthly and eternal life of Roberta (Bobbi) MacGregor who died on June 12, 2023 in Pennsylvania. Ms. MacGregor will be remembered by her many students, teaching peers and friends as a master teacher who loved “her kids.” She started her teaching career in the Hopewell Valley School System, Pennington NJ in 1967, teaching 4th grade in Grammar and Tollgate Schools for many years. After a brief break to work with her friend Nancy Bremble at Reynold’s in Pennington, she taught 5th grade reading and math in Franklin Township, Hunterdon County NJ, retiring in 1996.
Many of her students, each of whom was her “favorite”, will fondly remember her individualized reading program, her weekly vocabulary tests, and her love of mental math challenges. They will also remember the nickname she gave each of them. She stayed in touch with many of her students for years after they graduated.
Ms. MacGregor agreed with Dr. Jill Biden who wrote of herself that “Being a teacher is not what I do but who I am.”
Bobbi was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Robina MacGregor, and her brother Randy MacGregor. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Kermit Eide of Audubon PA, numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved “best dog” Sneakers.
At her request, there will not be a funeral or memorial service.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to Capital Area Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.), PO Box 575, Sandston VA 23150 or to the WJCC Scholarship Fund of the Williamsburg Community Foundation, 1323 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg VA 23185. Or perhaps read a book to a child, adopt a pet or be kind to a stranger… all things Bobbi loved doing.
