The annual Solstice Trail Run had runners of all levels come together for a day of outdoor adventure, camaraderie, and environmental stewardship.
The event hosted by The Watershed Institute on June 21 at The Watershed Institute’s scenic 950-acre reserve showcased the beauty of nature while raising close to $30,000 to support the Watershed’s vital conservation and education initiatives.
“Together, we are making a tangible difference in environmental conservation, advocacy, science and education,” Watershed Executive Director Jim Waltman said. “It is exhilarating to celebrate the power of community and the beauty of nature as we continue to work towards a sustainable future.”
As the sun set on race day, about 300 participants showcased their endurance and determination, tackling the challenging 5K, 10K, and 15K trails.
Set on the 10 miles of hiking trails at the Watershed, runners took to the paths and rocky terrain, all while enjoying the surroundings of The Watershed Institute.
The event is a chance for everyone to combine a love of athleticism and nature, inspiring runners to push their limits and celebrate their accomplishments, according to the nonprofit.
After crossing the finish line, runners and supporters alike gathered to celebrate their achievements and the summer solstice. The post-race party provided a well-deserved opportunity to relax and revel in the shared experiences of the day.
The air was filled with the sounds of music, and the firepit offered a cozy setting for making complimentary s’mores. Participants had the chance to savor the beverages served by beer sponsor, Old Hights Brewing Company of Hightstown.
Additionally, pizza was available for purchase from Antimo’s Italian Kitchen of Hopewell, ensuring everyone left with satisfied appetites.
The Solstice Trail Run celebrated individual accomplishments and recognized exceptional achievements. Medals were awarded to the first, second, and third place finishers in various categories, honoring their dedication, skill, and perseverance.
The fastest female and male runners in the 15K race were Scott Sullivan of Trenton and Greta Nelson of Princeton. Winners in the 10K race were Aaron Tutten-Lanca of Frenchtown and Laura Barnes of Carlisle, Pa.
Winners in the 5K race were Eric Feigenbaum of Windsor and Meghan Bruce of Princeton. Winners for various age categories for the men’s and women’s divisions were also given awards.
“The success of the Solstice Trail Run would not have been possible without the support of our participants, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners,” the release said. “The Watershed Institute extends its deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed their time, energy, and resources to make this event a resounding success.”
Sponsors for the run included NRG, Bloomberg, Bristol Myers Squibb, Fleet Feet, Old Hights Brewing Company, Stellitano Heating and Air Conditioning, and Princetonian Graphics.
