A Pennsylvania man died after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a wall on River Road Dec. 29, according to the Hillsborough Township Police Department.
At approximately 12:07 a.m., police located a single vehicle on River Road near the Basilone Bridge. Arriving units discovered an unconscious driver and a passenger with a severe leg injury. The front of the vehicle was also found to be smoking. The occupants were removed from the vehicle by responding officers and they began life saving measures on the driver, police said.
During this time Hillsborough fire units extinguished the smoke emanating from the engine. The driver, Steven Christiano, 51, of Upper Black Eddy, Pa. was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Somerset where he was pronounced deceased.
It was determined that the vehicle was traveling south on River Road, veered off the road and struck a stone wall head on. The 51-year-old injured female passenger, also from Upper Black Eddy, was transported to Robert Wood Johnson New Brunswick for treatment.
