Boy, 15, injured by gunshot

NORTH BRUNSWICK – A 15-year-old boy was the victim of a drive-by shooting in front of the Manor Apartments, Route 1, on Saturday night.

At 11:52 p.m., the unidentified male was standing outside with two friends when several shots were fired from an unknown vehicle, according to Lt. Joseph Battaglia. One bullet struck the boy in the chest. The bullet was believed to be fired from a small caliber handgun.

According to police, it is unknown if the victim was the intended target. However, he denies any gang affiliation, according to Lt. Jim Curry.

There are no suspects at this time.

He was transferred to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where it was determined that the bullet should remain. His injuries were not critical, and he was released.
