SOUTH BRUNSWICK — The Zoning Board approved an application to construct a Quick Chek Food Store and gasoline station June 2.
The convenience store will be built on a 3-acre lot on the corner of Route 130 North and Stults Road. The application was approved by a 5-2 vote.
Located in the I-3 zone, the store and gas station will be a 24-hour service business, with eight pumps, two with low-flow diesel fuel.
According to Quick Chek’s director of real estate, Robert Delia, the store will be similar to the one on Route 27 and Henderson Road. Delia said deliveries, which may occur five to six times a day, will be made to both the front and rear of the store.
Planners for the application testified at the May 19 meeting that the convenience store is needed in the area, as no support services exist for employees who work along the area of Route 130 and New Jersey Turnpike Exit 8A.
Though the application was approved, board members raised concerns over traffic safety at the proposed intersection.
“It’s a bad intersection,” Zoning Board member Marty Hammer said.
A condition of approval for the application, however, will prohibit a left turn onto Route 130 South from the Quick Chek store.
The applicant has also been required from the board to change the turning area for vehicles making rights on Stults Road from Route 130.
