Fine art exhibition features Roosevelt artist’s work

The New Jersey State Museum is hosting the 2010 New Jersey Arts Annual: Fine Art, a juried exhibition that features the works of visual artists currently living or working in the state.

More than 288 artists representing every county in New Jersey submitted work to the jurors, who selected 85 works by artists from 16 counties for inclusion in the exhibition. Selected works include paintings, prints, photographs, sculpture, installations and collage.

Roosevelt’s Bill Leech is one of the 65 artists chosen to exhibit in the show that will be on view through Oct. 31.

Artists submitting work for consideration were asked to consider the theme “Reality & Artifice.” Artists were asked to reflect on whether they are considering or creating fact or fiction, the real world or an invented universe, something tangible or virtual.

“The Arts Annual series allows us to shine a light on the diverse work of the state’s contemporary artists,” Eric Pryor, executive director of the State Museum, said. “On behalf of the NJ State Museum and Friends of the State Museum, we extend our thanks to the artists from across the state who submitted their work for consideration in this year’s New Jersey Arts Annual exhibition.”

A free 30-minute lunchtime gallery walk led by the exhibition’s curator, Margaret O’Reilly, will be offered at 12:10 p.m. June 4. The illustrated catalog documenting the exhibition will be available in the Museum’s Friends Gift Shop, with proceeds benefiting the publications program of the New Jersey State Museum.

The New Jersey State Museum is located at 205 W. State St., Trenton. The main building and auditorium are open 9 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The museum is closed Mondays and all state holidays.

On weekends, free parking is available in lots adjacent to and behind the museum.
