Approximately 470 students from Crossroads Middle School, South Brunswick, recently took part in the Hershey (Pa.) Festival Competition held in early June. The Crossroads chorale received an "excellent" rating and first place in the middle school treble choir division, and its concert choir received a "superior" rating and second place in the middle school division. The vocal ensemble also received a "superior" rating and first place in the junior high division, while the jazz ensemble received "superior" and second place in the middle school division. Robert Kang received an Outstanding Accompanist Award at the competition.
The concert orchestra received an "excellent" rating and third place in the middle school division, while the symphonic orchestra received an "excellent," and first place in the junior high division. The concert band received an "excellent" and second place in the middle school concert band II division, the symphonic band received "excellent" and a fourth place in the division, and the jazz band a "superior" rating and first place in the junior high division. The wind symphony received an "excellent" and first place in the junior high division.
Eight district teachers from the South Brunswick Township School District instructional council were recently named grant recipients for the spring cycle grant distribution. Grant recipients are Cristina Arnese of South Brunswick High School, Kelly Hunt, Andrea Schneider, Sandy Fehte and Peggy Cislo of Brooks Crossing, and Shanna Jelen, Stacey Lindes and Emily Natale of Indian Fields. The instructional council consists of teachers working to provide staff development opportunities for teachers by providing grant dollars for workshops or programs to enhance student and teacher performance.
