Brick Rec. sponsoring student poetry contest
The Brick Township Recreation Department is sponsoring its Fifth Annual Poetry Competition for students. The contest is open to elementary, middle, high school and college student as well as vocational, parochial and trade school attendees who are residents of Brick and are under age 20.
Any theme is acceptable, although the judges reserve the right to reject poems considered in poor taste. Poems should be mailed to Brick Township Recreation Department Poetry Competition, 401 Chambers Bridge Road, Brick 08723, or call (732) 262-1075. Each entry must include the poet’s name, age, address, teacher, grade and school. Submissions will not be returned.
Some work may be used for a booklet of local poetry that will be distributed at public events. Winners will be presented with a trophy at a reception held with Mayor Joseph C. Scarpelli.
Open poetry readings are held regularly at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Cultural Arts Center, 515 Herbertsville Road, Brick.
