Mark a big red circle around July 30 on New Egypt’s just released 2001 racing schedule, and make sure you don’t miss "The Greatest Show on Dirt."
New Egypt Speedway owners Rick and Nancy Grasso and Lebanon Valley’s Howard Commander have teamed up to bring the high-profile Penzoil World of Outlaws Sprint series to the Garden State for a truly wild $51,600 one-shot event on July 30.
And you can bet the hot-ticket event will attract an overflow crowd to see "The King," 16-time series champ Steve Kinser, take on Sammy Swindell, Danny "the Dude" Lasoski, Mark Kinser, Jac "Wild Child" Haudenschild, Stevie Smith, And Hillenburg, Donnie Schatz and a band of other bona fide sprint stars in their only New Jersey appearance of the year.
"We’re thrilled to say the least to have the Outlaws at New Egypt," Rick Grosso said. "This is a big opportunity for us."
Commander was pleased that he was the promoter chosen to bring this special event to New Egypt.
"Many other promoters were trying to bring the Outlaws to this very popular New Jersey facility," said Commander, a former RPM Promoter of the Year, who is behind the 2001 Outlaw dates at Talladega (Ala.), Rolling Wheels, Lebanon Valley and two Midwestern tracks in addition to New Egypt. "I’m convinced this show will be huge success."
A special hotline number will be set up to purchase advance tickets to New Egypt’s show.
The $30 reserved seats will go on sale the end of this month.
In addition to the eagerly anticipated Outlaw invasion, New Egypt’s 2001 schedule features an Advance Auto Parts Super Dirt Series 100-lap event for the big block Modifieds on June 21; four appearances by the URC sprint cars, including the club’s season opener on Memorial Day weekend; Ladies’ Night, with Powder Puff races for women sponsored by Burnett Racing Engines on Aug. 4; and Crew’s Cruise Night, with a special crew chief challenge race on Sept. 29.
A variety of fan-interactive theme nights will include Advantage Financial’s Christmas in July blowout, Dick Greenfield’s Saturday Night Fever disco inferno featuring vintage stocks and Grand Slam Little League Night.
New Egypt’s 2001 season kicks off with an open daytime practice on March 24, and racing for real on March 31, with big block Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks and Rookie Sportsman on the card.
The Central Jersey speedway will be in action every Saturday night through Sept. 29, with a one-week breather before the big finale Legends of the Fall two-day weekend on Oct. 13-14.
