BRICK TOWNSHIP – An elderly township man died Monday morning after his Honda Civic went through a red light at the intersection of Route 70 and Jack Martin Boulevard and struck another car.
Assistant Ocean Medical Examiner Joseph E. Domanski pronounced James J. Wilson, 79, Brick, dead at the scene of the 8:36 a.m. accident, police said.
Wilson was traveling north on Jack Martin Boulevard when he entered the intersection against a red light and crashed into a car driven by Tracy N. Clark, 30, Lakewood, police said.
Clark was traveling east on Route 70 approaching the intersection when the collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of Route 70, police said.
Clark and her 4-year-old daughter sustained minor injuries and were taken to Ocean Medical Center by the Brick Township Police EMS Med Unit 1, police said.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and Clark’s daughter was properly secured in a child passenger restraint system, police said.
Police closed the westbound lanes of Route 70 for an hour and a half after the accident. The accident is under investigation by Officer Jeffrey Lindquist, Sgt. Donald Ling and Officer Jay Lampiasi of the police department’s traffic safety unit. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call police at (732) 262-1158.
