Fee for tire recycling temporarily waived
Old tires from cars and small trucks are being accepted at Ocean County’s recycling centers for free until Dec. 20. The fee of $1 is being waived until the middle of the month in order to get more tires properly recycled and off properties. By cleaning out tire piles, the county hopes to help reduce the threat of the mosquito-borne West Nile virus.
Tires can be brought to the Ocean County Northern Recycling Center on New Hampshire Avenue in Lakewood or the Ocean County Southern Recycling Center on Recovery Road in Stafford Township, between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Funds from the state Scrap Tire Management Grant will be used to cover some of the cost of the free drop-off. Residents will be limited to dropping off no more than 20 tires. Details: (800) 55-RECYCLE.
