SHREWSBURY — The Shrewsbury Parent Teacher Group (PTG) will host a presentation on the current status of funding education in New Jersey given the state budget shortfall and changes that may be proposed under the new administration.
The event will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at the Shrewsbury Borough School gymnasium located at 20 Obre Place.
Lynne Strickland, executive director of the Garden State Coalition of Schools (GSCS), is the scheduled guest speaker. The event is open to the public and the Shrewsbury PTG is extending a special invitation to the surrounding communities. Public officials are expected to attend.
The GSCS represents 115 (primarily suburban) New Jersey school districts and their communities, including Shrewsbury. It is a statewide, grassroots volunteers association composed of parents, Board of Education members and school administrators. The GSCS mission is to promote high-quality education for all children; it focuses on equity and excellence, with an eye on school finance. Strickland has established a Trenton advocacy office and is recognized for her state level data and school finance analyses.
