RUMSON — When students arrive at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School from the Rumson and Fair Haven sending school districts, they have to learn a new system for the media center. That’s because all three districts use different systems in their library.
To smooth students’ transition, the librarians from each of the schools collaborated to create a single system that would work for everyone.
The librarians developed a coherent system that provides instruction in reference and literacy skills at the middleschool level that familiarizes students with a system that they will be using all the way through high school, according to a press release from RFH.
To highlight the reference sources available to students, the tri-district group presented “Changing Worlds, Changing Students” on April 12 in the media center at RFH. Developed for seventh- and eighth-grade parents, the presentation showed parents what tools are available for research at the middleschool level and encouraged them to work with their children to make the transition into high school research smoother.
Participating librarians were: Liz Waters, Rumson School District; Patrice Horan, Knollwood School, Fair Haven; Jane Kablaoui, Sickles School, Fair Haven; and Linda Wien Murray, RFH.
