TINTON FALLS — The 42nd Monmouth Festival of Arts (MFA)will take place May 5-9 at the Monmouth Reform Temple (MRT) on HanceAvenue in Tinton Falls.
The festival is a professional juried art show supporting artists as well as art education. More than 200 artists from throughout the Northeast display their work in a variety of mediums, including jewelry, ceramics, sculptured art, oils, watercolor, pastels, mixed media and fine crafts.
Daily ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and students. A series ticket (Sunday-Wednesday) can be purchased for $18. Festival hours are noon- 8:30 p.m. Sunday, May 6; 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 7, and Tuesday, May 8; and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 9.
An opening gala on Saturday evening, May 5, 7:30–10 p.m. offers patrons a first opportunity to purchase art and to meet the artists. Tickets for the gala are $65 at the door .
On May 6, Family Day, Encore Performing Arts will present a musical program, “Pecos Bill Rides the Oregon Trails.” The 2 p.m. show features original songs, Pecos Bill stories, clog dancing and cowboy rope tricks for the 4-11 set. Children’s workshops will take place from 12:30-1:45 p.m. and 3:15-4:30 p.m. and include projects for Mother’s Day and springtime crafts. At 5 p.m., a program of popular and light classical music for woodwind quintet will be performed by members of the Monmouth Symphony Orchestra wind section.
During the week, demonstrations will be given by artists during day and evening sessions. The festival includes a daylong Symposium for Art Educators. A student/ artist display showcases the artwork of 11th-grade students who won top awards at the StudentArt Competition held in February.
On Monday evening, May 6, Carol Lynn Chetkin, of Chetkin Galleries in Red Bank, will present “Art Collecting for Passion and Investment.” On Tuesday, May 7, MRT welcomes poet and performer Dr. Gretna Wilkinson, creative writing teacher at Red Bank Regional Academy of Performing and VisualArts, who will perform pieces from her latest book of poems, “Opening the Drawer.” Abook signing will follow her reading.
