HOLMDEL — The Vietnam Era Educational Center will host “Growing Up in the 1960s-’70s: A Flashback in Time.”
The exhibit is a collection of more than 50 toys from the 1960s and 1970s from the Doll and Toy Museum in New York and will be on display through the end of August.
According to a press release from the center, following the post-World War II economic boom, mass production of dolls and toys exploded in the Vietnam era. G.I. Joes were first produced in 1964. Barbie, who was popularized by Mattel in the 1960s, has remained youthful even after celebrating her 50th birthday last March.
Other featured objects on display include Star Trek figures, Etch-A-Sketch, Trolls, Legos, Nerf balls, dollhouse furniture, teddy bears and more.
On Saturday, June 12, at 1 p.m., in conjunction with the exhibit, the educational center will also host a lecture titled “History of Dolls and Toys of the 1960s-70s” by collector Steven Stegman.
