Adele LaSecla Manning

Mrs. Manning, 79, of Lakewood, died Aug. 27 at Ocean County Medical Center, Brick. Born in Union, she resided in the Belford section of Middletown, prior to moving to Lakewood 12 years ago. She was employed at the Middletown Board of Education for 10 years, and she and her husband co-owned Dairy Queen, Belford, for eight years. She is survived by her husband, Peter Manning; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and William Buchan of Stowe, Vt., and Susan and Philip Crowe of Middletown; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Peter and Theresa Manning of Shrewsbury, Jack Manning of San Diego, Calif., and Bob and Amy Manning of Highlands; a sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Victor Kulbick of Florida; and nine grandchildren. A memorial gathering will be Aug. 31 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Sept. 1 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. James P. “Percy” Hodgkiss

Mr. Hodgkiss, 76, of Rumson, died Aug. 27 at home. Born in Red Bank, he resided in Fair Haven, prior to moving to Rumson in 1986. He was employed at Shop Rite, Aberdeen, retiring after 48 years. He was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He was a member of the Fair Haven Fire Company since 1959. He was predeceased by his former wife, Lillian Hodgkiss; three brothers, Thomas, William and Donald Hodgkiss; and a step-grandchild, Michael Massa. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Elizabeth Whittaker Hodgkiss; a daughter and son-in-law, Ethel Hodgkiss and Joseph Truex of Rumson; a stepdaughter, Denise Willumson of Keansburg; three stepsons, Dan Cornelius of Red Bank, Frank Massa and his wife Diane of Little Silver, and Charles Massa and his wife, Nancy of Eatontown; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Ben Wenning of Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Aug. 31 at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Church. Arrangements are by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.
