RED BANK — After months of meetings and discussion, a new playground will be installed at the Red Bank Primary School on River Street before the first day of spring.
According to Superintendent Laura Morana, a dedication ceremony for the new playground will take place March 2 at noon.
The school received funding for the new playground from the state Department of Education preschool program expansion grant.
A committee made up of teachers, parents, the principal and business administrator reviewed various models from multiple companies.
“The decision was part of a committee, [and the new playground] supports the Tools of the Mind curriculum,” Annie Darrow, school business administrator, said.
Darrow said the playground will cost about $38,000. She said the school is still waiting for a quote for how much it will cost to remove the old playground.
The expansion grant money will also cover the cost of the removal of the old equipment.
In previous interviews, Morana said the old playground was antiquated and the school needed a new one.
She said the delay in choosing a new model was because the committee was very specific about what they wanted the equipment to include.
Darrow said details about the March ceremony will be finalized later in the month.
Richard Cohen is principal of the primary school, which includes students in kindergarten through third grade. There are also preschool classes taught in the building.
