RED BANK — The borough’s volunteer Fire Department is asking for help from residents to keep fire hydrants easily accessible to firefighters in case of an emergency.
Residents who have a fire hydrant near their property are asked to take a moment when maintaining their yards to inspect the hydrant and make sure that Fire Department personnel can quickly connect to it. This will make suppression efforts go much easier should there be a call in their neighborhood, fire officials said.
Accumulated snow and ice or overgrown grass and weeds can make access difficult and cut into response time in an emergency, according to a statement from the borough.
The Red Bank Fire Department is allvolunteer. Each winter, members take several hours after each significant snowstorm to travel through the borough and make sure all fire hydrants are clear and ready for use, and any help by residents is much appreciated, officials said.
